Shakopee’s Fire Truck Zamboni Recruitment Strategy
You’re probably familiar with seeing job advertisements on main street storefronts, buses, or billboards lining roadways. But the City of Shakopee has found a new vehicle for promoting city jobs – literally. In early 2022, the City of Shakopee’s Parks and Recreation Directory Jay Tobin had a creative idea to wrap their ice arena’s Zambonis with advertisements for city jobs. For the first advertisement, Tobin partnered with local vendor Sign PRO to design a wrapped advertisement that would make the Zamboni look like a fire truck, complete with a siren on the top.
The city hopes the Zamboni’s media coverage and visibility will generate interest in city jobs or spark another idea for creative advertising on a Zamboni. The community’s reaction to the Zamboni advertisement has been positive, and the city is already planning for future wrap designs. One idea they’re interested in adding for the next design is a QR code that links to the city’s employment page on their website. With one quick snap of a picture using their phone, a potential applicant would be brought directly to more information about city employment. Not only would the QR code make it easy for potential applicants to find city job information, it would also track how those job openings are found by applicants.
