Public Employers Participate in Labor and Workforce Working Group Meeting

February 3, 2025

Local government associations outlined legislative priorities to some Republican House members.

Following the Minnesota Supreme Court’s Jan. 24 ruling determining that 68 members are needed for the Minnesota House of Representatives to be officially organized, lawmakers have been holding working group meetings in place of formal committee sessions to discuss legislative issues.

Public employer issues discussed

On Jan. 29, the League of Minnesota Cities, along with the Minnesota Association of Townships, the Association of Minnesota Counties, and the Minnesota School Boards Association were invited to meet with Republican members of a House labor, workforce, and economic development working group to highlight priorities for public employers for the 2025 legislative session.

Topics discussed during the meeting included the newly enacted state leave mandates (Minnesota Paid Leave and earned sick and safe time), public employment labor relations, and other workforce issues that are unique to public employers.

These issues are expected to generate significant discussion by the full workforce committee once the House is fully in session and committee work begins.
