Tips for Visiting and Navigating the Capitol
City officials visiting the Capitol are invited to park at the League building but note there are Capitol construction projects impacting access routes.
Each year, hundreds of city officials from around Minnesota come to the Capitol to advocate for their cities by meeting with legislators, testifying on bills, and participating in other legislative activities. Here are some tips if you are visiting.
Navigating the Capitol
Senate building access
Currently, portions of the Minnesota Capitol area are undergoing construction. The Ford Building, located along the north side of University Avenue between Rice Street and Park Street, is currently undergoing demolition and the sidewalk is closed, which officials would usually take to access the Senate building and Capitol building. Until the sidewalk reopens, members should use the platform walkway along the Metro Transit Light Rail by crossing Rice Street and University Avenue.
State Office Building and Capitol building access
What was a walkway directly to the Capitol building and the north end of the State Office Building is blocked for the construction and expansion of the State Office Building. Members should cross Rice Street after exiting the League building, head south until they are past the State Office Building parking ramp, and head east to access the southern entrance to the State Office Building and/or cross Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to access the Capitol building.
The League has resources to assist members with navigating the Capitol including maps and other information.
