New Learning Management System FAQs

  • Why are we changing to a new Learning Management System (LMS)?

    You asked and we listened!

This January, the PATROL platform will transition from our previous platform to the new Benchmark Analytics learning management system (LMS).

This new platform offers improved features, user-friendly navigation, and better reporting—ensuring the most effective online training for users.

  • What can we expect from the new LMS?

All courses will be updated with a new look and feel, and additional learning features and interactives will be available. You can also expect a more intuitive interface and better tools for tracking progress and setting goals.

  • When will PATROL be offline?

From Jan. 1 to Jan. 7, users cannot access their accounts. Administrators will have access to review their agency roster and explore the new system.

  • What courses will be available on the new LMS?

All POST-mandated learning objectives and OSHA courses will be available on Jan. 8 (the first day in the new LMS).

Access to other Critical Knowledge elective courses will be limited during the first few months as we work on updates.

We anticipate that by Feb. 1, the full PATROL catalog will be available to users. As always, we will continue to add and update courses regularly.

  • What steps do agency administrators need to take before the transition?

In December, we will send all administrators a “how-to” email with instructions about logging in to the new system.

Once you log in, you will be prompted with additional requirements for your agency.

All these items should be completed by Jan. 8.

    • Complete assigned administrator tutorials in the new LMS. Short training videos will be assigned to administrators. It should take less than one hour to complete these trainings:
      • Adding and removing users
      • Reviewing your roster
      • Running completion reports
      • Billing form how-to guidance
    • Fill out the agency billing form. January is the billing renewal period for PATROL. Agency administrators will be prompted to fill out a form in the new LMS. Administrators will need to select the number of PATROL seats for users participating from their agency in 2025.
  • Can I add new users to PATROL during this transition?

All user profiles added to an agency account before Dec. 14, 2024, will be automatically transferred to the new system.

We cannot add new users to the system between Dec. 14 and Jan. 7.

After the go-live on Jan 8., administrators can add new users to the system.

  • What can PATROL users expect?

PATROL users can access courses (on the old LMS) until Dec 31.

There will be no access to PATROL Jan. 1-7 to ensure all data is transferred to the new LMS.

Administrators will be sent a “how to” video to forward to users in their agency as soon as  the new PATROL system is live on Jan. 8, 2025. This will include user instructions for logging in to the new LMS.

A couple notes about this transition:

    • User logins will remain the same in the new system.
    • User emails will remain the same in the new system.
    • All users will need to reset their password in order to log in.

The information you provide in your online profile will be used to verify your identity for purposes of enrollment or renewal in the PATROL program. Under MN Stat. 13.32 Educational Data, your profile data, information about the courses you take, and the scores you receive in PATROL are considered private data about you. Unless you provide consent to release this information, or the League has been court ordered to produce this information, the League will only provide this information to you, your school or public safety employer, and/or to POST representative(s) for purposes of Peace Officer licensure. You may choose not to provide the enrollment information but doing so will exclude you from participating in this learning opportunity and from potentially earning accredited Peace Officer training.

  • Can users access certificates from previous trainings on the new LMS?

No. Certificates from course completions in the old PATROL system will not be available in the new system.

If you want access to certificates, instruct your agency’s users to print or save certificates before Dec. 31. (Agency admins do not have the ability to print certificates on behalf of users.)
